According to SeafoodNews, the Russian government has said that it does not plan to restrict fish exports in 2025, in order to prevent the price of fish and other seafood in the domestic market from rising further.

Russian fish prices have risen sharply in recent months, and Russian authorities have received numerous calls to restrict the export of fish and seafood to foreign markets.

According to the customs data of the major fish importing countries, Russian exports of fish and other seafood in 2024 decreased slightly compared to 2023, mainly to China and South Korea, according to experts of the Russian Fisheries Union.

Exports are expected to increase slightly in 2025, mainly due to the depreciation of the ruble.

According to the Russian Fisheries Union, the decrease in seafood imports in Russia is mainly due to the increase of fish and processed products in the domestic market, as well as international payment problems, logistics complications and the depreciation of the ruble, and seafood imports in the first three quarters of 2024 are higher than in 2022, but lower than in 2023.

Despite the reduction in Russian seafood imports, the export trade of fish will not be restricted.
