Kenyan agricultural company Kakuzi has received approval from the Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (KEPHIS) to export a second batch of fresh avocados to China, Kenyan media reported.
On July 27, Kakuzi shipped 72 kilograms of avocados to Shanghai for the first time by air. A month later, on August 26, 45 tons of fresh avocados arrived on a cargo ship at Shanghai's Waigaoqiao Port area. Kakuzi is now preparing a second shipment of avocados in a 20-foot container, which is expected to leave by the end of the week.
Kakuzi managing director Christopher Flowers said the containers were ready for transshipment to the port of Mombasa over the weekend and were expected to arrive in China 30 days later. Recent orders from Chinese customers have continued to grow steadily. Avocado production has increased this year and at least one container will be shipped to China for each of the next two months until the avocado season ends.
