The Philippine Department of Agriculture (DA) said in a statement that Chinese companies including Dole China, Shanghai Goodfarmer and Dashang Group have committed to buying Philippine durians.

The Philippines plans to export $260 million worth of durians to China, which will be procured from registered farms in major durian producing areas in Davao City, Davao del Sur and North Cotabato.

During Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s visit to China in January, he reached an agreement with China on fruit purchases worth US$2.09 billion, including coconuts and bananas. According to the "Protocol on Phytosanitary Requirements for Exporting Fresh Durian from the Philippines to China" signed by China and the Philippines, 50,000 tons of fresh durian from the Philippines will be allowed to enter the Chinese market.

The Philippine Regional Land Office will coordinate with the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) and the Department of Agriculture's high-value crop planting program to increase durian production capacity, ensure the production of varieties preferred by the Chinese market, develop packaging plants and assist in marketing. At the same time, the Philippine Bureau of Plant Industry will expand its support for certified farms and promote the implementation of Philippine Good Agricultural Practice certification and agreements.
