On February 20, 2023, Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) announced that it will implement the new "Food Safety Management Tool Standard" (version number 3.2.2A), which will take effect in December 2023.

For local governments and food companies, the new guidelines strengthen food safety in the food service and retail industries, benefit consumers and protect public health and safety. The main changes involve training for food handlers and supervisors , and measures to manage food safety risks. Food businesses have 12 months to implement the new changes, which will come into effect on December 8, 2023.

The "Food Safety Management Tool Standard" is applicable to the professional food service industry and retail industry to facilitate the handling of hazardous food; the tool standard is not applicable to food donations; training, certification of food safety supervisors, and certification that major food handling processes are managed.
