GACC Announcement No. 48 of 2023 (Announcement on Inspection and Quarantine Requirements for Imported French Pork)

On May 11, the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) issued Announcement No. 48 of 2023, announcing that the import of French pork that meets the relevant requirements will be allowed from now on. Pork allowed for import refers to any edible part of a pig carcass, including offal.


Slaughtering and processing enterprises that export pork to China should meet the requirements of veterinary hygiene and public health for pork slaughtering and processing enterprises in the laws and regulations of China and France.


The registration process of enterprises is as follows:


-France recommends the list of enterprises applying for registration to the Chinese side and provides relevant materials.


-On the basis of reviewing the provided materials as soon as possible, the Chinese side dispatches an expert review team to conduct on-site review of the recommended enterprises and corresponding veterinary and public health systems.


-The Chinese side should be assisted by the French side in the on-site assessment.


-After the Chinese side completes the on-site review, it shall notify the French side of the review situation as soon as possible: the Chinese side shall organize experts to review the review report and notify the French side of the list of approved registered enterprises as soon as possible.


At the same time, the announcement also lists in detail the relevant requirements for imports, including inspection and quarantine requirements, certificate requirements, packaging, storage and transportation requirements, etc.
