The Honduran Institute of Coffee Research (Ihcafe) said on July 13 that 10 Honduran enterprises have been approved to export unroasted coffee beans to China.
The Honduran "Tribune" reported that Mario Suazo, deputy director of Ihcafe, said that from now until the end of this year, Honduran exporters have the opportunity to participate in various international fairs held in China to promote their products.
Suasso also said that at present, 10 companies have been granted permission to export unroasted coffee beans to China. In addition, the two sides are discussing the inclusion of roasted and ground coffee bean exports in the Hondura-China Free Trade Agreement currently under negotiation.
Suasso believes that the Chinese market is one of the world's extremely large markets, in the medium and long term, China will become an important window for coffee production. For many years, Honduras has been exporting coffee beans to China, but all through the triangular trade model, from now on, Honduran coffee beans will be directly sold to the Chinese market, especially after the free trade agreement between the two countries comes into effect, which will bring greater impetus to coffee bean exports.
It is reported that according to the phytosanitary requirements for Honduran unroasted coffee beans exported to China signed by the General Administration of Customs of China and the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry of Honduras, from June 13 this year, Honduran coffee beans that meet the relevant requirements can enter the Chinese market.
