Saudi Arabia plans to set two food standards

On July 13, 2023, the Ministry of Health of Saudi Arabia issued two consultation documents to develop two food standards, specifically:

 

1. Hygienic standards for the thawing process of frozen food, including the scope of applicable products (including but not limited to frozen livestock, poultry, aquatic products and liquid egg products, etc.), terms and definitions, and requirements for thawing various products (poultry products should be thawed at temperatures below 4.4 ° C; When the liquid egg products are thawed below 4 ° C, the process time shall not be 48 hours, when the environment is thawed above 4 ° C, the process time shall not be 24 hours, and the temperature during the thawing process of the meat for further processing shall not exceed 5 ° C, etc.), packaging and transportation regulations, product labeling requirements (such as the process shall be explained on the label of the frozen and thawed products. Such as marked "secondary frozen products", etc.);

 

2. Wheat flour standard, the main contents include definition and terminology, general quarantine and health requirements, sensory, quality and classification requirements (moisture content shall not exceed 14%, impurity content shall not exceed 0.045%), food additive requirements (L-ascorbic acid and its salts maximum added amount < 300mg/kg, The maximum added amount of sulfur dioxide is 200mg/kg, the maximum added amount of lecithin is 2000mg/kg, etc.), heavy metal limit requirements (arsenic content <1mg/kg, lead content <0.02mg/kg, cadmium content <0.03mg/kg, etc.), packaging and transportation requirements, sampling and testing methods, labeling regulations, etc.
