On July 27, 2023, Israel's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development issued shelf-life regulations for foods of animal origin, effective September 1, 2023. Main contents:

2. Principles and requirements of shelf life determination. The manager of the production enterprise is responsible for the shelf life of the relevant products and includes it in the food safety plan; The product description of the food safety plan should include: shelf life, storage method and packaging method; Product shelf life should be determined according to the storage temperature of the product; The product label should clearly indicate the shelf life and storage temperature of the product; The expiration date of meat and aquatic products from the date of slaughter or catch, the expiration date of ground meat products from the date of processing of ground meat, chilled poultry within 3 days from the date of slaughter, chilled beef without vacuum packaging within 6 days from the date of slaughter, chilled beef preserved under vacuum or air conditioning within 15 days from the date of slaughter, the expiration date of imported products shall be based on the expiration date determined by the producer in the country of origin, The importer may shorten but not extend its shelf life;
3. Validation of shelf life. The shelf life of products with different characteristics should be stated and verified in the food safety plan, and verification records should be available for inspection by regulatory authorities.
