On August 28, the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) issued Announcement No. 107 of 2023, announcing that South African fresh avocados that meet the relevant requirements will be allowed to import from now on.

Orchards, packing plants and fumigation treatment facilities exported to China must be reviewed and filed with the Ministry of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development of the Republic of South Africa (hereinafter referred to as "South African side"), and approved and registered by the GACC (hereinafter referred to as "Chinese side"). The registration information needs to include name, address and registration number, so as to accurately trace the source when the exported goods do not meet the relevant regulations. Before the annual export season, the South African side needs to provide the registration list to the Chinese side. After reviewing and approving, the Chinese side will publish it on the website of the GACC.

At the same time, the announcement also lists in detail the relevant requirements for imports, including packaging requirements, phytosanitary certificate requirements, etc.
