On 5 September 2023, the British Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA)  revised the import standards for hops and their products, which came into effect on the date of publication. The main revisions are as follows:

(1) Hops and their products imported into the UK before 1 February 2025, which are not of EU origin, must have an EU Equivalent Certificate (AoE) issued by an authorised authority, which can only be issued by an authorised authority in the country where the hops originate or where the hops are final processed;

(2) No need for AoE certification: small packages of hops and their products for private use; Hops and products thereof for use in scientific and technical experiments; Hops and their products for exhibitions;

(3) For hops and powder products, the packaging weight shall not exceed 1kg; For hop extracts, the weight of the package must not exceed 300g; The name, weight and end use of the product must be identified on the package.
