India revised labelling requirements for non-pre-packaged processed food

On October 17, 2023, the Food Safety Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued a notice to formulate labelling requirements for non-pre-packaged processed foods, which will be implemented from the date of publication. Main contents:

 

(1) Unprocessed agricultural products include: wheat, rice, grains, beans, etc.;

 

(2) The amount of nutrients declared on the label should be ±20% of the value of nutrients declared on the label during the shelf life of the product; If the surface area of the package does not exceed 100 square centimeters, it may not be marked; Packaged food for non-retail sale should provide the following mandatory information on the container or label: Food name; Relevant logo and license number; Production date and storage description; Batch number; The name and address of the manufacturer or packer; Country of origin; Specify the names of substances added to fortified foods, etc.;

 

(3) Foods with aspartame, acesulfamil or aspartame and acesulfamil mixed should be warned: not recommended for phenylketonuria patients; Children and pregnant or breastfeeding women are prohibited.
