On October 19, 2023, according to the U.S. Federal Register, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued Notice 2023-23117, announcing the review of third-party information disclosure and record-keeping requirements for reported foods for a period of 30 days after publication in the Federal Register.
FDA defines a "reportable food" as a food (other than infant formula) that can cause serious adverse health consequences or death to humans or animals if consumed or touched. Public information about the reportable food includes: the date the food was identified as a reportable food; A description of the food, including the quantity or amount; The extent and nature of food adulteration; Results of investigation on the causes of food adulteration; How food is handled; Product information commonly found on packaging, including the product code, expiration date and the name of the manufacturer, packer or distributor; Contact information of the responsible party; Contact information for parties directly involved in the food supply chain; Information provided by the responsible party; Unique number of food, etc. In addition, the responsible party shall maintain records related to the reportable food for 2 years.
