According to Spanish media reports, the first 15 containers of Spanish Sinian wood will be exported to China between January and February 2024.

The first batch of Padam came from the Dcoop Group in Spain, totalling 300 tonnes. Each container weighs 2 tons, and the varieties are 160 tons Lauranne and 140 tons Penta. Lauranne is similar to the Nonpareil variety from California in the United States, with better taste and size, the skin does not peel off when baked, and the price is higher. Penta has a rounded appearance and a smaller size, which makes it suitable for processing into candies and chocolates, and tastes sweeter than other varieties.

The negotiation of Spain's export of badam to China began in October 2017, during the visit of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez (Pedro Sanchez) in March this year, the Chinese and Western governments reached an agreement on the export of Spanish Sinian wood and fresh persimmon to China, and the Chinese General Administration of Customs officially issued quarantine requirements on the import of Spanish Sinian wood on April 11. According to reports, only the Dcoop Group and the Catalan company Unio Nuts are currently licensed to export badam to China.

The Dcoop Group is a large agri-food cooperative consisting of more than 75,000 family growers whose products also include table olives, olive oil and wine. Dcoop has invested in a large batan hulling facility in Corvado with a capacity of 8,000 tonnes, which is one of the industry leaders in Spain. According to reports, Dcoop company focuses on the export market, the main competitor is the California Barsinian. In addition to its first export to China, Dcoop in recent weeks will also export badam to India for the first time.

According to Spanish media, for the Spanish government, reaching an agreement with China to export Batan wood to China shows the strong interest of Spanish Batan wood producers in the Chinese market. China is an important target in the strategy to expand badam production. It is estimated that Spain will export about 50,000 tons of badam to China in 2025, and it is expected to reach 90,000 tons in 2032.

The opening of Spanish sinian to the Chinese market will be conducive to the cultivation and development of almost all production areas in Spain. In Andalusia, in particular, the 2020/21 production of badam reached about 100,000 tons. In the same period, Aragon produced 60,000 tons, Castilla-La Mancha 50,000 tons, Valencia 37,000 tons, Murcia 28,000 tons and Catalonia 20,000 tons.
