On 19 December 2023, the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued Directive 8080.1, the 8th edition of the Regulatory Requirements for Adulterated or Mislabeled Meat, Poultry, and Egg Products.

The revised directive establishes terminology, responsibilities, and public notification procedures regarding the evaluation of adulterated and mislabelled meat, poultry, and egg products that may have entered circulation and the voluntary recall of such products. Includes egg products as voluntary recall commodities regulated by FSIS and provides instructions on mass recalls and recalling food products in conjunction with the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA's) related regulatory requirements. It also includes a new definition of a Class III recall; and clarifies when FSIS may issue a public health alert.

The revised directive is effective as of the date of publication.
