Greece proposed beer and beer drinks regulations

On 16 January 2024, Greece issued Public Notice 2024/0020/GR proposing a regulation on beer and beer beverages, with a comment period ending on 17 April 2024. Main contents:

 

(1) Definitions;

 

(2) Ingredients, additives, enzymes and flavourings to be used. Permitted: malt of barley or other cereals, starchy substances or their extracts, sugary substances, hops and their extracts, brewer's yeast and bacterial cultures; additives as specified in Annex II of Regulation (EC) 1333/2008;

 

(3) Provisions on the issuance of licences for the production of breweries and special beers; obligations and rights of beer producers, etc;

 

(4) Official control requirements for the production and import of beer. On-site regular and ad hoc inspections (production conditions, traceability, hygiene and safety, etc.), sampling and testing, etc;

 

(5) Transitional provisions. This provision grants a transitional period of six months from the date of its entry into force to the enterprises concerned; beer and beverages produced during the transitional period may continue to be sold until the shelf-life is sold out.
