On 16 January 2024, the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) issued a consultation paper on the proposed 2023 Food Safety (Food Recall) Regulations with a 60-day comment period. Key elements:

(2) Food Recall. Food should be recalled when there are excessive levels of microorganisms, toxic and hazardous substances, chemical substances, etc. in the food, which may lead to health risks or deaths; types of food recalls; content of the written plan to be submitted to the competent authority; information dissemination of the food recall; handling of the food after the recall: a separate area labelled "Recalled product not suitable for human consumption"; storage; recording the name of the recalled food; and Storage; Record of the name of the recalled food, batch number, package size, brand name, date of manufacture, expiry date, best-before date and all relevant data; Verification of the validity of the food recall.
