On January 24, 2024, the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) issued Announcement No. 11 of 2024, announcing that from now on, Russian pork (including edible pig by-products) that meets the relevant requirements will be allowed to be imported.
The pork allowed to be imported include chilled or frozen pork with bone or skeletal muscle.
Edible pig by-products that are allowed to be imported include: frozen pig feet (whole hoof)/frozen pig foot rings, frozen pig tail, unrefined pig fat (excluding fat around internal organs), frozen pig cartilage, frozen pig bone, frozen pig skin.
Other edible pork chop that is allowed to be imported include: frozen pig heads (including frozen pig brains, frozen pig jaws, frozen pig tongues, frozen pig ears, frozen pig nose, frozen pig lips), frozen pig feeding tubes, frozen pig trachea and frozen pig throat bones from non-immune and free foot-and-mouth disease areas.
Pork production enterprises (including slaughtering, cutting, processing and storage enterprises) that export pork to China shall be located in the territory of Russia in areas free of foot-and-mouth disease recognized by the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as the Chinese side) and the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision (hereinafter referred to as the Russian side), and in areas free of African swine fever or biosafety quarantine areas approved by the Russian side. Under the supervision of the Russian side, it meets the requirements of Chinese and Russian laws and regulations related to veterinary health and food safety.
Pork producers exporting to China shall be registered by the Chinese side, and products produced from the date of registration may be exported to China. Unregistered pork producers are not allowed to export to China.
At the same time, the announcement also details the relevant requirements for imports, including the requirements of production enterprises, inspection and quarantine requirements, processing requirements, etc.
