On 29 January, Tayfun Kilic, Deputy Director General of the Turkish Ministry of Trade, Ferhat Guruz, Chairman of the Union of Mediterranean Fruit and Vegetable Exporters (UMFVE), Hayrettin Ucak, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Union of Aegean Fruit and Vegetable Exporters (UAFVE), and Huseyin Gazi Kaya, Agricultural Counsellor of the Turkish Embassy in Beijing, and other members of their party paid a visit to the China Chamber of Commerce of import & Export of Foodstuffs, Native Produce & Animal By-Products (CFNA). The two sides exchanged views and discussed issues related to trade access and promotion of Turkey's agri-food products exported to China, especially citrus fruits, poultry meat and aquatic and marine products, which are of great concern to them.

Turkish exporters hope to increase their exports to China by 2024. Hayrettin Ucak said that Turkey will also promote access to citrus fruits, pomegranates, grapes, apples, figs, batanas and kiwis after resuming cherry exports to China. Negotiations between the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China are still ongoing, he added.

Ucak explained that Turkey wrote to the Chinese side in October 2023 to export fruits and vegetables to the Chinese market. At the same time, the Turkish side wants to not only limit itself to fresh fruits and vegetables, but also to include seafood, poultry, eggs and dairy products. He emphasised that the Turkish side will provide quality products at affordable prices.
