On 1 February 2024, the German Food Safety Inspection Agency for Consumer Protection (LAVES) published its 2023 report on a special survey of meat products in breadcrumbs.
A total of 125 samples of breadcrumbed meat products were tested in Germany, including 97 samples of poultry, 27 samples of pork and one sample of steak. 83 samples, or 66% of the samples, were found to be unsatisfactory, mainly due to labelling and quality failures, such as lack of mandatory information on the labels, meat content lower than that stated on the labels, and misleading labelling statements.
