On 21 February 2024, the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) changed the import conditions for confectionery for human consumption: confectionery must meet the following import conditions:
(1) The following must be provided on the manufacturer's declaration or on the food label: certification that the commodity contains less than 10 per cent dairy and less than 10 per cent eggs; and certification that the product does not contain meat or meat ingredients;
(2) The product must be solid and of the same consistency (e.g. toffee, hard candy, mints, marshmallows, licorice candy, etc.).
The amendment is effective from 21 February 2024 onwards.
