On March 5, 2024, the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) approved a decision setting the order of implementation of the amendments to the Customs Union's technical regulations on the safety of meat and meat Products (TP TC 034/2013).
The amendments, which were approved by the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission in September last year and will come into force on April 7, 2024, relate to the clarification of food nutritional value information on the labels of slaughtered products and meat products, which are difficult to standardize due to the natural heterogeneity of their protein and fat content.
The amendment specifies the permissible deviation limit for the actual content of food ingredients: protein - not less than 80% of the value specified on the label; Fat, carbohydrates - not more than 120%. The energy value (calories) of these products must also not exceed 120% of the labeled value. The Commission establishes a transition period for conformity assessment documents (information) for products for slaughter and meat products, which are issued or accepted before the effective date of the above changes until the end of their validity period. Until the expiration of the validity period of these documents, the production and circulation of slaughter products and meat products are permitted. The product can be circulated within the shelf life set by the manufacturer. The establishment of a transition period will have a positive impact on business activity conditions, as manufacturers and sellers (suppliers) can gradually move to meet the revised requirements for nutritional value information on food labels.
