Japan issued guidelines for the verification of analytical methods for food additives in food and revised relevant testing methods

On March 8, 2024, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan (MHLW) issued Circular 0308 Basic Food No. 2 and 0308 Food Monitoring Circular No. 2, issuing the "Guidelines for Verification of Analytical Methods for Food Additives in Food" and revising the "Analytical Methods for Food Additives in Food" (2nd edition).

 

The “Guidelines for Verification of Analytical Methods for Food Additives in Food” (hereinafter referred to as the "Guidelines") are intended to provide guidance and basis for judging the effectiveness of analytical methods; at the same time, to revise the general principles of the "Analysis Methods of Food Additives in Food” (2nd Edition). After the publication of this notice, testing institutions may replace the analysis method specified in the "Analytical Methods for Food Additives in Food" (2nd Edition) with an analysis method that meets the performance parameter standards set out in the Guidelines when testing.
