South Korea revised Salmonella standard for raw eggs

On 9 April, Korea issued Notice No. 2024-20 amending parts of the Codex Alimentarius, with the following major amendments:


1. Revise the criteria for Salmonella in raw eggs: adding 2 Salmonella species (Salmonella Typhimurium, Salmonella Thompson) to the existing 1 Salmonella species (Salmonella Enteritidis).


2. Modify the list of food ingredients: delete 2 food ingredients including Aluterus scriptus and Aloe arborescens, and convert 7 food ingredients, such as Artemisia annua, to restricted-use food ingredients.


3. Revise the residue limit of one pesticide, simazine.
