Korea proposed to amend parts of the Regulations on Declaration and Inspection of Imported Foods

On May 20, Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of the Republic of Korea issued Announcement No. 2024-250, which proposes to amend parts of the regulations concerning declaretion and inspection of imported foods, with the following main contents:

 

1. Improve the process of applying for the planned import of raw materials used for the production of the company's own products and raw materials used for foreign exchange acquisitions: the scope of application for the planned import has been expanded to include raw materials used for the production of the company's own products (excluding aquatic products) declared for import by a company that is registered as a food production and processing company, a food additives producer, or a company that specializes in the distribution and sale of food products, and that are deemed safe by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) , items for which test and inspection reports from foreign testing and inspection agencies recognized by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety are submitted, and raw materials used for the acquisition of foreign exchange for the production of products for export, and specifies the documents to be submitted at the time of application.

 

2. Implement precision inspection and random sampling of kidney beans, millet, red beans, persimmons, burdock, and pumpkin from China.

 

3. Revise some of the wording in this standard in accordance with the implementation of the Consumption Period Labeling System.

 

4. Adjust the number of pesticide inspection items for the first precision inspection from 113 to 128 items.

 

The deadline for comments on the above is June 10, 2024.
