On May 21, 2024, Health Canada issued document P-FAA-24-01 amending the list of licensed food additives with other approved uses to remove brominated vegetable oil from the list of food additives.

It is understood that brominated vegetable oil (BVO) is currently allowed to be used as a density regulator for flavoring (named flavor) in beverages containing citrus oil or spruce oil, with a maximum content of 15 ppm in beverages containing citrus oil or spruce oil at the time of consumption. The comment period is open until July 30, 2024.
