Taiwan revised names and labeling requirements for certain dairy products and milk-based drinks

On June 5, 2024, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the Ministry of Health and Welfare of Taiwan, China issued Circular No. 1131301408, revising the product names and labeling requirements for fresh milk, sterilized milk, prepared milk, milk beverages and milk powders, with a 60-day feedback period, with the following main contents:


(1) Revise the definition of each product and add new product names (for example, fresh milk adds new product name "cow's milk", the product is pasteurized with appropriate temperature and time combination, and then filled with approximately asepsis in a high cleanliness environment, and the storage period is more than 30 days, the product name is (Fresh milk with extended storage period), (Fresh milk with long acting) or equivalent words);

 

(2) New product packaging labeling requirements (such as fat, sugar, etc. are adjusted, the packaging must indicate "milk fat adjusted, sugar adjusted" and other words, indicating the product sterilization method, indicating the shelf life with Chinese labels, adjusting milk to indicate the percentage of milk powder, etc.);

 

(3) The infant formula food, large infant formula complementary food products, etc. into the regulation management.
