On June 21, 2024, the Philippine Department of Agriculture classified a gene-edited banana (TRB011002) as a regular banana. Developed by British company Tropical Biotechnology, the gene-edited banana was modified using CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing technology to give it anti-browning properties.
