The Philippine media reported on July 22 that the Philippine Exporters Association (Philexport) said China remains an important export market for Philippine food products, including coconut snacks and processed fruits.
The Bureau of Foreign Trade of the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) in Guangzhou, and the Philippine Exporters Association (PEA) jointly organized a Philippine Food Business Delegation (PFBD) to Guangzhou from June 19 to 23 to meet with close to 60 local buyers, key retail customers, members of food chambers of commerce, and officials, generating close to US$1 million in sales for the country's 10 food exporters. The Philippine Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said the delegation organized a business matching activity with the Guangdong imported Food Association (GDFA), exchanged views with the Guangzhou Chain Store Association (GZCSA), visited renowned food chains such as Freshippo, Shengjia Supermarkets, Sam's Clubs, and China Resources Vanguard, as well as discussing cooperation opportunities with the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT).
Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) showed that from January to May this year, Philippine exports to China amounted to 3.73 billion U.S. dollars and imports from China amounted to nearly 13 billion U.S. dollars.
