Brazil delays implementation of regulations on positive list of food contact materials additives
On June 19, 2020, Brazil’s health ministry has delayed the implementation of a positive list of additives that manufacturers will be allowed to use in food contact materials (FCM).
The list was adopted on 3 December 2019 and was set to enter into force on 1 June this year. Because of the "international public health emergency" caused by the coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic, the Brazil's Ministry of Health and the National Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) decided to extend the effective date of the new rules to June 3, 2021.
Brazil’s Regulation No. 326 provides a detailed positive list, sets restrictions and specifications for hundreds of substances that are permitted in food contact materials. It also sets migration limits for heavy metals.
