Pakistan's Economic Coordinating Committee approved the import of live animals, meat and meat products

According to official sources, the Palestinian Cabinet Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved the import of live animals, meat and meat products.

Previously, Pakistan banned the import of live cattle, sheep, live poultry, and raw meat and meat products from certain countries in 2001 and 2005 because of mad cow disease and avian influenza. In recent years, as the epidemic situation in these countries has improved, Pakistan has gradually lifted its import ban on certain countries based on periodic reviews. For example, Pakistan allowed the import of boneless meat from the European Union in 2017, and the import Policy Order issued in 2016 was also revised accordingly.

According to the latest animal disease epidemic prevention guidelines issued by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), mad cow disease and avian influenza have been significantly controlled. Therefore, many countries have applied to the Pakistani government for removal from the list of prohibited import countries. After consulting relevant industries, the Ministry of Food Safety and Research of Pakistan submitted a motion to the ECC to amend the "import Policy Order", requesting permission to import live animals, meat and meat products. Afterwards, the Pakistani Ministry of Commerce was responsible for drafting amendments to the relevant provisions of the "import Policy Order", which have been discussed and approved by the ECC meeting.
