Australia and New Zealand Issues Amendment No. 198 to the Food Standards Code


On March 26, 2021, the Food Standards Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ) issued the official gazette on Amendment No. 198 to the Food Standards Code of Australia and New Zealand. The main revised standards are:

Standard 1.3.2 Vitamins and minerals
Standard 2.9.1 Infant formula Food
Attached Table 2 Units of Measurement
Schedule 3 Characteristics and Purity
Schedule 8 Food Additive Name and Code Number (Ingredient Description)
Attached Table 15 Substances that can be used as food additives
Schedule 17 Vitamins and minerals
Schedule 25 Allowed novel foods
Schedule 26 Foods produced using genetic technology
Attached Table 29 Special purpose food

The applications for these amendments are as follows:

Application A1155-2’-FL and LNnT in infant formula and other products
Application A1175-Approval of rapeseed protein as a new type of food
Application A1180-Approval of a long-chain glycolipid as a preservative for non-alcoholic beverages
Application A1186-Allows the use of leghemoglobin derived from beans as an ingredient in meat simulation products
