According to the monthly notice of unqualified foods and cosmetics by GAC, 249 batches of imported foods and 4 bactches of cosmetics were found unqualified and refused for entry in June 2021.
Unqualified foods came from
37 countries or regions. Products from
Japan, 22 batches, were the most, followed by India and Malaysia, with 37 batches and 17 batches respectively. The unqualified products involved compound seaso
ning blocks, solid beverages, sake, biscuits, shrimp, various snacks, chocolate, etc.
The foods refused for entry did not comply with China’s laws and regulations. The main reasons of rejection were
failure to provide certificates or certification materials as required (the most), failure to obtain inspection and quarantine access, unqualified labels, food additive use problems, inconsistencies in the certificate, microbial contamination. In addition, some foods have been found to use nutrient fortifiers beyond the scope, exceed the expiration date, co
ntain ingredients that have not been quarantined, detect non-edible additives, detect unlabeled genetically modified ingredients, excessive pesticide residues, and other problems.
Statistics also show that
Ningbo Port detected the largest number of unqualified foods, with
47 batches.
In addition, 4 batches of cosmetics were not allowed to enter the country, of which 3 batches came from
Germany (failure to provide certificates or certification materials as required) and 1 batch came from
South Korea (unqualified labels).
The above-mentio
ned unqualified foods and cosmetics had been returned or destroyed at ports, according to GACC.
