Canada approves the expansion of the use of three food additives to plant protein-based products
On July 22, 2021, Health Canada issued document NOM/ADM-0168, amending the allowed list of emulsifiers, gelling agents, stabilizers and thickeners, the allowed list of food enzymes, and the allowed list of preservatives used. It approves to expand the use of the three food additives to plant protein isolate-based products similar to egg products.
The three approved food additives are gellan gum from Streptoverticillium mobaraense S-8112, nisin and transglutaminase. It is understood that in Canada, these food additives have been allowed to be used in various other foods.
This revision will take effect on July 22, 2021.
