On October 5, 2021, the Australian Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment issued import industry advice notices 216-2021 that Australia is reviewing fresh loose and truss tomatoes from New Zealand for human consumption.

The department is currently undertaking a review of fresh loose and truss tomatoes (Lycopersicon esculentum) grown in New Zealand, due to a change in risk profile. Fresh loose and truss tomatoes grown in New Zealand are not permitted for import into Australia until the review is finalised.

The department will issue another import Industry Advice Notice when the review has completed.
