New Zealand’s 2021 Consumer Information Standards (Food Origin) Regulations will take effect until 2022

 
On September 21, 2021, New Zealand issued the Addendum Notification No. G/TBT/N/NZL/93/Add.2 through the WTO, which amended the effective date of the Consumer Information Standards (Origin of Food) Regulations 2021. The commencement of the Regulations has been delayed by three months. The Regulations will now commence on 12 February 2022. The commencement for the Regulations for frozen foods remains 12 May 2023.

The Consumer Information Standards (Origin of Food) Regulations 2021 were made on 10 May 2021. The Regulations introduce mandatory country of origin labelling for imported and domestically produced fruit, vegetables, meat, fish and seafood which are fresh or frozen and no more than minimally processed; and cured pork.
