Myanmar issued Instruction for Pre-packaged Food Labeling


Myanmar Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued the Instruction for Pre-packaged Food Labeling on 21 April 2022.  This instruction mainly covers:

 

(1) The definition of terms;

(2) General labeling principles;
(3) Mandatory requirements for pre-packaged food: the contents obliged in the label mainly include food name, ingredient list, manufacturer and address, net content, country of origin, batch, instructions for use, allergen information, GM(genetically modified) labeling, etc. 

(4) Additional mandatory requirements: storage conditions, net content, irradiated food, percentage of alcohol by volume, age warning statement, nutrition statement;  

(5) Claims;   

(6) Other requirements: Any picture, text or graphic design can be used to describe any embedded information in accordance with the labeling principle, without causing any misunderstanding;  

(7) Special requirements to be complied with: certification and licensing labeling requirements, font requirements, mandatory labeling requirements of government departments;  

(8) Exemption requirements: Labeling exemption for small package and retail package.  

The directive will enter into force one year from the date of publication, after which it will enter a three-month rectification phase, six months for medium-sized enterprises and nine months for small enterprises.
