UK revises fruit and vegetable quality and labelling rules

On 27 May 2022, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) issued a notice revising fruit and vegetable quality and labelling rules. The main contents are as follows:

(1) Specific label content of fruits and vegetables: quality grade, full text of country of origin, cultivar, weight or quantity, net weight, name and address of grower or authorization code mark;

(2) Specific quality requirements: integrity, no defect, clean, no pest, no moisture, no peculiar smell, etc.;

(3) The following products are exempt from specific labelling and quality requirements: products intended for industrial processing, brewing, processing or drying; Kudzuvine root, bitter almonds, Brazil nuts, tamarind, cashew nuts, chili, cacao beans, taro, edamame, ginger, artichokes, macadamia nuts, pine nuts and all shelled nuts, nutmeg, olive, peanuts, pecans, pistachios, saffron, sago, sweet corn, sweet potatoes, turmeric, wild mushrooms, dioscorea batatas bean and high starch content root (or tuber), Chinese yam.

This rule takes effect from the date of promulgation.
