On June 21, 2022, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued guidance on food supervision and regulation, covering the "Systems Recognition Arrangement" (SRA) between food safety agencies outside the United States and FDA. The guidelines mainly cover the inspection of domestic food enterprises in the United States, automatic screening and risk objectives and audit of imported food, inspection and sampling of imported food, importer verification procedures, management compliance measures, etc. For import warning and automatic detention, it will be amended to:
(1) If necessary, FDA may recommend companies or foods to implement automatic detainment in accordance with the SRA;
(2) FDA will ensure prompt notification of food safety matters to foreign food authorities;
(3) If a foreign authority has evidence that it can list the food or enterprise in question in an import alert, FDA will consider recognizing such evidence. The FDA's guidance is only advisory, not mandatory.
