On June 16, 2022, the Fisheries and Oceans Committee of Canada's House of Commons issued a series of recommendations, suggesting that the Canadian government should take new measures to improve the traceability of its seafood.  The contents include:

Develop traceability and labeling systems compatible with EU standards and set target dates for implementation.

Apply traceability and labeling requirements to all domestic and imported fish and seafood.

Improved labeling standards for fish and seafood, including the scientific name, whether the fish was caught or farmed, the source of the catch or farmed, and harvesting or farming methods.

Establish a working group of agencies and stakeholders to develop a new traceability system.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency reviewed guidelines for common names for fish and seafood and improved DNA testing for law enforcement and verification.
