South Korea has released draft amendments to its Food Hygiene Law that will change terminology for risk assessment

On June 28, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of South Korea issued Notice No. 2022-286, proposing to amend parts of the Food Hygiene Law.  Its main contents are as follows:  
   
1. Changed the risk assessment terminology to risk assessment as defined in the Basic Law on Food Safety, and unified the legal terms.  
   
2. Re-stipulate personnel who are obliged to complete food hygiene training.  
   
3. Formulate basic rules for the designation, extension and cancellation of the designation of food hygiene training institutions.  
   
4. The drinking water quality testing agency shall timely report the detection results which are judged to be inconsistent with the requirements of food water after receiving the groundwater testing requests put forward by operators or others.  
   
5. Formulate the basis for the designation of health training institutions for chefs and nutritionists.  
   
6. Formulate the basis for revoking the business license in violation of the production project ordered by the product production center.  
   
The above comments will be solicited until August 8, 2022.
