The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has provided an update on additional steps it has taken to make more infant formula available in the United States.  
   
The FDA said it expects 696,000 cans of Bellamy's organic infant formula to arrive in the U.S. starting in early July and over the next few months.  The Department of Health and Human Services is evaluating options to ship the product to the United States as soon as possible.  The products came from Bellamy's Organic, an Australian company.   FDA exercised enforcement authority over the import of these infant formula products after reviewing the information provided regarding nutritional adequacy and safety, including microbiological testing, labeling, and additional information about the facility's manufacturing and testing history.  
   
The agency is using some flexibility to enhance the supply of products that are the only source of nutrition for many infants, while ensuring that infant formula can be used safely and provides adequate nutrition.  FDA is still in further discussions with manufacturers and suppliers about additional supplies to ensure that adequate infant formula is available for parents and caregivers whenever and wherever they need it.
