Vietnam expects large-scale application of ASF vaccine by the end of 2022

Nguyễn Văn Long, Acting Director of the Department of Animal Health of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, said Navetco(National Veterinary Joint Stock Company) had selected more than 50 farms in 10 provinces and cities to carry out 600,000 doses of African swine fever vaccine vaccination.

The vaccine is expected to start in July and will be evaluated by the end of the year. If it goes well, it will be rolled out nationwide.

Trần Xuân Hạnh, vice-president of Navetco, said it was difficult to order the vaccine because it was a new one and the cost was not included in the budget at the beginning of the year.  In addition, the farms asked the company for more information about the vaccine. The company is holding seminars in several provinces and cities to educate farmers about the vaccine.

Navetco's ASFVAC vaccine was approved for circulation in early June 2022.

As required, the vaccination campaign will be carried out in two phases.  In the first phase, 600,000 doses of ASF vaccine will be applied, after which they will be subject to rigorous monitoring to accurately assess the vaccine's immune effectiveness.  The MARD will consider nationwide use of the vaccine after the results of the first phase of effectiveness assessment.
