Brazil has formulated several food regulatory requirements

On July 6, 2022, the Brazilian Government Gazette website published a number of resolutions to establish a number of food regulatory requirements, which can be divided into two categories according to the content, namely product hygiene requirements and general standards, including:  

(1)Product hygiene requirements include:  

Hygiene Requirements for Grains and Its Processed Products
Food Ingredients and Label Requirements for food containing grain composition
Hygiene requirements for Ice Cream and Semi Finished material
Hygiene requirements for food of special use (low sodium food, diet food, Specific Nutrients Limit foods, Low sugar food) ,
Hygiene Requirements for Beverages(coffee, yerba mate, barley tea) and Seasoning Sauce
Hygienic Requirements for Bottled Water and Ice for Human Consumption
Hygienic Requirements for Semi-Ready-to-eat and Ready-to-eat Food
Hygienic Requirements for Nutritionally Improved Food,
Hygienic Requirements for Sugar Products,
Hygienic Requirements for Edible Fungi, Fruit and Vegetable Products, etc.,

The main contents include:  Product category and scope, definition and terminology, ingredients and quality requirements for all kinds of products (such as humidity in grain starch and flour should not exceed 15%, ice cream apparent density should be greater than 475 g/L, cocoa butter content in chocolate shall not be less than 25%, etc.), product label requirements (name of starch and flour products should contain generic names of source plant ,  the requirements also apply to the labeling of ingredients in biscuits and bread products, etc.), the safety and hygiene standards applicable to various products, etc.  

(2)General standards include:

Regulation of Nutrient Recovery and Fortification in Food; 
General Principles and Assessment Procedures for Setting Limits of Contaminants in Food;  
Requirements for Sampling, Analysis and Handling of Microorganisms in the Food Chain;  
Food Flavoring Agent Standard;  
General Requirements for Labels on Packaged Food ;  
List of Classification, Sources and Types of Enzyme Preparations permitted for Use in Food;  
General Principles and evaluation Procedures for the Establishment of Veterinary Drug Residue Limits in Food;  
List of Permitted Plant Categories Used as Tea Beverages and Spices, etc.  

The above-mentioned resolutions will take effect on September 1, 2022.
