On July 12, 2022, the Agriculture and Fisheries Standards Authority of the Philippines released a draft honey standard for public comment. The main content of the standard includes the scope of application, product classification, terms and definitions, composition requirements (no food additives nor other exogenous substances shall be added), production and processing requirements (the processing process shall not cause the composition change or quality damage of honey, and the unique pollen and other components shall not be removed through filtration or homogenization process. Honey crystallization cannot be eliminated by chemical or biological methods), physical and chemical standards and quality requirements of products (water content <20%, fructose and glucose content <60%, sucrose content <5%, insoluble substance content: Non-pressed honey <0.1mg/kg, pressed honey <0.5mg/kg), hygiene standards for final products (lead content <0.1mg/kg), product packaging, transportation and labeling regulations, sampling standards and testing methods, etc.
The period for feedback on the draft is six months.
