League of Arab States approves Food Security Initiative in Sudan

Sudan's food security initiative was approved at a special session of the Economic and Social Council held at the headquarters of the League of Arab States in Cairo on July 26, the Sudan News Agency reported. Abubakar Omar Busra, acting Minister of Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Sudan, revealed in a statement that the meeting approved Sudan's food security Initiative, thus fully funding for all food security projects in Sudan shall be provided. Busra noted that the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has established an emergency program to support the planting of one million acres of wheat in winter and a separate fund to meet the relevant inputs, to which the General Secretariat of the Arab Agricultural Investment Development Authority has pledged US $500,000, and the League of Arab States has pledged US $500,000 in emergency support. The Arab Agricultural Development Organization has pledged $200,000 for the first phase of funding. Sudan National Bank will allocate $1.5 million to support food security programs.
