On August 8, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Lak Province said it is going through the formalities to help enterprises and farmers prepare for the export of passion fruit to the Chinese market.
According to statistics, the area under passion fruit cultivation in Dak Lak Province is 1,055 hectares and the yield is 14,703 tons.
Passion fruit is one of the 10 products that Vietnam has exported to the Chinese market under the regular trade mode after the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development signed an agreement with China's General Administration of Customs, said Vu Duc Khon, deputy director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tak Lok Province. At present, the Plant Cultivation and Protection Branch of Tak Lok Province is actively cooperating with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to guide enterprises, planting areas and packing enterprises to implement planting area code and packing enterprise code to prepare for the export activities of passion fruit.
Earlier, China's General Administration of Customs agreed to import Vietnamese passion fruit on a pilot basis starting July 1, according to news released by the National Animal and Plant Health, Epidemiology and Quarantine Advisory Office (SPS) of Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
According to China's General Administration of Customs, passion fruit exported to China must meet requirements on packaging specifications, pest control, growing area codes, and file keeping to ensure product quality and food safety. Passion fruit was among the top 10 fruits exported by value from Vietnam in 2021. Vietnam's passion fruit production and exports have both increased by more than 300% in five years. The area and yield of passion fruit cultivation are increasing, especially in the Tay Nguyen region, where profits can reach 350 million to 400 million dong per hectare.
