Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision: China simplifies COVID-19 testing process for imported cold chain food

GACC海关总署title
The Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision said that China's General Administration of Customs will not detain imported cold chain food in case SARS-Cov-2 is detected on the packaging.

Earlier, China's General Administration of Customs said all food samples that tested positive for COVID-19 would be destroyed, and import suppliers of the food should conduct their own COVID-19 tests.

"The General Administration of Customs of China explained to the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision on the optimization of epidemic prevention and control measures at ports of import of cold chain food. For enterprises whose outer packaging is detected with SARS-Cov-2, the General Administration of Customs will not suspend the acceptance of import declarations for their products for one or four weeks in future."

In the meantime, Chinese customs authorities will continue to carry out nucleic acid testing on commodities, and in case the customs detected SARS-Cov-2, the commodities should be treated or recycled. In addition, the Chinese side may request inspection of the manufacturer or vessel. If such inspection is refused or serious violations occurs, restrictive measures will be taken. In serious cases, the registration of the enterprise or vessel in China may be revoked.

The sources stressed that the measures involved companies exporting grain to China via third countries.
