Moscow, August 18 (Sputnik) -- Russia plans to adopt Chinese standards for plant-based meat exports in order to export Russian products to China, the plant-based products manufacturers alliance said.
Sources pointed out that the plant-based products manufacturers alliance proposed to change the standard of plant-based meat to the standard set by the Chinese Institute of Food Science and Technology. On June 25, 2021, the group standard for Plant-based Meat Products released by the Chinese Institute of Food Science and Technology began to be implemented.
Valeria Rodina, executive manager of the plant-based products manufacturers alliance, said: "The document is rich and comprehensive for this type of product and can be used as a barometer for the Russian market. The Chinese market is huge, with plant-based meat alone worth more than $1 billion, which means there are good opportunities for Russian manufacturers to export in the future."
To that end, she added, it is important to take into account the requirements of current Chinese standards and correctly name Russian products so as not to alienate consumers.
Artyom Ponomaryov, general manager of the plant-based products manufacturers alliance and founder of Greenwise, said: "The document contains strict requirements for quality control, labeling, packaging and naming. Our alliance must propose to the Working Group on Standardization of Plant-based Products to study this document."
