China has suspended imports of some meat products from the US company Tyson Foods due to substandard inspections, the General Administration of Customs announced on August 29.
The decision took effect on August 29 in accordance with food safety regulations , according to China's General Administration of Customs. The decision was made after Chinese customs officials found a shipment of Tyson Fresh pork that did not meet national standards.
China has notified the U.S. Department of Agriculture of its problems, the General Administration of Customs said in a statement. The move comes after Beijing suspended meat shipments from two other US plants in the last month or so, citing the presence of ractopamine, a feed additive used in the US but banned in China.
