Turkey published regulations governing nutrition claims in food

On August 14, 2024, the General Directorate of Food Safety and Control of Turkey issued Notice No. 588, the "Regulation on the Management of Nutrition Claims in Food".

 

The main contents of the regulations include: Scope of application (applicable to the management of nutrition claims used in food labeling, promotion, display and advertising), basic principles (food nutrition claims must be clear, non-misleading and presented in a manner understandable to the average consumer), conditions for the use of food nutrition claims (certain conditions must be met, And the corresponding nutrient elements are found in the natural ingredients of the food), equivalence claims (nutrition claims can use equivalent expressions that do not change the original meaning and do not strengthen the original meaning), food nutrition claims labeling regulations, restrictions on the use of specific nutrition claims (such as "no added sugar" claims in the food may not be added to any monosaccharides or disaccharides).

 

The regulation will enter into force on the date of publication of the Turkish Government Gazette, with a transitional period until June 30, 2025.
